Mnquma Municipality in partnership with the Department of Environmental Affairs and Indalo Yethu hosted a succesful world environmental day on the 3rd June 2011. The Mnquma Councilors attended the ceremony in their big numbers, Mnquma Management, representatives from National and Provincial Department of Environmental Affairs, School Governing Body and Management of Butterworth High School and teachers with pupils from surrounding schools.
During the morning there was a motorcade around town where communities were made aware on the issues of illegal dumping and general waste management issues. The traffics from Mnquma kept a watchful eye on the majorrettes that were leading the procession to the sports grounds. There were various speeches and presentations from all present and the crowds got entertained by the pupils and the message was clear that the Municipality must do more to ensure that the environment was kept clean.
Emphasise was made that everyone should take care of the environment for the benefit of the future generations to come.
